Compassion & Outreach Ministry

"Believers brighten cities!” Dr Mike Rakes

Winston-Salem First’s compassion ministry seeks to brighten our city by reflecting the light & love of Jesus through sustained & collaborative efforts of ministry!  Fueled by Jesus’s call to love "the least of these”, our mission is to do "good works", build "good friendships", & share in the Good News of Christ’s Kingdom with vulnerable communities.

How do I get involved in Outreach?

Below you will find a list of serving opportunities. Some are family friendly & others have age & passion specific requirements. Whatever you choose, we strongly encourage you to attend the summer missions workshop: "Where the Cross Meets the Streets" on Saturday, June 4 from 11am-2:30pm at Redeemer Presbyterian.

Brownsboro Rd. Community Garden:

Volunteer to help with the upkeep of the Brownsboro Community Garden! CLICK HERE to see more about this opportunity.

Brownsboro U

Every Tuesday from 4pm-6:30pm students come to Awake Church's campus in partnership with Love Out Loud for a meal, reading time, discipleship, and homework help. Come be a homework helper!

Brownsboro Trunk or Treat // Monday, October 31 at 6pm

Join the community for a safe & fun night of games, food, trunk or treating, & the Good News. Volunteers can serve by decorating & stocking their car trunk with candy, dressing in a costume, & having fun with children.

Christmas Gift Mart // Mid December

The Christmas Gift Mart provides inexpensive way for parents in the community purchase new & softly used toys for their kids for Christmas. Donate toys or sign up to serve for this dignity affirming way of helping under resourced parents provide a meaningful Christmas expletive for their kids.

Lit City U

Our Lit City U character education groups meet 3 times a month at 6 to 7 public school campuses. If you have experience in working with middle & high school students & have availability during the 2-5pm window let us know. We also need folks who are willing to cook meals for our meetings. We generally build with 50 students per school & try to bring food for our meetings to show ourselves friendly & to help counteract childhood hunger.

Lit City Mentoring

If you are interested mentoring a middle or high school student contact us. We train, screen, & match mentors with youth growing up in vulnerable circumstances. The aim is to share your life & the Good News with the student for a full year, meeting 3 times a month.

If you are interested in being a part of any of the opportunities mentioned above, please click on the button below so that we can send you more information.
